Core Skill - No 1Core Skills one - Positive D.V.D's.Now the good stuff begins. Imagine if you will, that the brain is a storehouse of memories or DVD's, no image gone or forgotten once seen. We might not be able to instantly recall them all, but there they are, still tucked away nicely and carried with us everywhere we go. Great! Or not so great! Depending on many factors, including early childhood experiences or traumatic events we may now be pre-disposed to recalling only the negative DVD's and only spotting the negative ones from all the new images we come across today and tomorrow. This becomes so due to a cluster of brain cells which sets the filter that determines what we should register and act upon and what we don't. Negativity breeds negativity. Thankfully the opposite is also true - Positivity breeds positivity. We call these images DVD's because we know that the more clarity and movement you give to your images the more power they have. If you set time each day to 'view' positive DVD's that you create in your mind with lots of colour and detail then your filter will re-set to notice only the positive in your surroundings and reduce the impact of negativity in your life. It is useful to view your mind as a DVD library from where you can take a chosen DVD at any point and view it. This way you can see the amount of control that you have over the exercise. Even more interesting is the fact that reviewing positive mental images and re-setting that filter also has a very similar effect on the brain as taking modern anti-depressants minus the side effects. This exercise takes time and effort but can result in startling differences in a persons mood. Positive DVD's are covered in more detail in Rick's book - The Promised Land. |
